World rapid champion Hikaru Nakamura, also of the United States, was bested by Armenian GM Levron Aronian, while So was beaten by Frenchman Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. So forced Vachier-Lagrabe into Armageddon to break the tie but the former Philippine board 1 player failed to pull off a win.
