Snowfall leaves wintry scenes around Lluc Monastery and other parts of Mallorca The snow line is expected to rise on Wednesday from 500 metres to around 1,200 metresMDB Digital | Palma | 2026-01-07 11:09The return from the Christmas holidays has brought an unexpected sight, with snow covering the area around the Lluc Monastery in Mallorca. The geographer Albert Ambrós reported the snowfall on social media, noting that a mass of polar air affecting the islands in recent days had caused the snow line to fall to around 500 metres. María José Guerrero, delegate and spokesperson for Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), said the snowfall occurred on 6 January. Forecasters say the snow line is expected to rise on Wednesday, 7 January, from 500 metres to around 1,200 metres, making further snowfall less likely. Despite this, the snow is considered beneficial, as it contributes to replenishing the reservoirs that supply water to the city of Palma.
