Snap UK election could delay AIB float

The snap UK general election will not derail the flotation of AIB but is likely to delay it to the end of June, according to market sources. Theresa May, the British prime minister, announced on Tuesday that the vote would be held on June 8, just over two years after the last general election. A spokesman for Michael Noonan said that he would consult with his advisers on whether it would have an impact on the initial public offering, but stressed that the “window remained May or June”. The government initially proposed selling up to 25 per cent of AIB to investors in 2015 but market turbulence delayed the plan. The Brexit vote and the US election ensured that market conditions remained choppy last year.
