TAWAU: The Eastern Sabah Secu­rity Command (Esscom) has recovered 3,500 packets of contraband cigarettes abandoned at a beach in Tawau. Esscom commander Datuk Hazani Ghazali said that they took action on a tip-off and deployed an Esscom team to Cowie Bay beach on Saturday night. The beach is believed to be a spot used by smugglers. “Inside them were 3,500 packets of contraband cigarettes of various brands,” he said in a statement yesterday. Hazani appealed to anyone with information on smuggling and unlawful activities to contact the Esscom operation centre at 089-863 181.
