An experienced skier has died after being swept off a cliff by an avalanche on Mount Victoria in Banff National Park. The pair had set out that morning to go up Mount Victoria, but turned back early in their trip due to strong winds and poor weather conditions. “It was likely a human-triggered avalanche,” said Tim Haggarty, visitor safety specialist with Parks Canada. Since he moved to Golden, he started skiing year round on some of the tallest peaks in B.C. Victoria and we expect this condition to exist throughout the Lake Louise group,” said the posting from Saturday.
