GO buses to get by-pass shoulder to skirt traffic on busy 401 west of Toronto

Starting in October, the province hopes new by-pass shoulders will swiftly ferry GO Transit bus commuters through gridlock along Highway 401 between Regional Road 25 and the Highway 407 interchange, west of Toronto. (Linda Ward/CBC)Commuters who travel by GO Transit bus between Waterloo Region and Toronto will be able to by-pass gridlock on a busy stretch of Highway 401 west of Toronto, starting at the end of the month. The province announced Monday it would add by-pass shoulders to a section of the 401 from Regional Road 25 in Milton to the Highway 401 and Highway 407 interchange by Friday. The changes are meant to whisk commuters through a section of highway that often sees a bottleneck during peak hours. The province said the by-pass shoulders will remain in place until the Highway 401 expansion gets underway, which includes the construction of HOV lanes in both directions.
