Singapore's public transport operators to lose S$79 mil in revenue on 4.2% fare reduction


SBS Transit, SMRT and LTA will see fare revenue fall by S$8.9 million, S$34.6 million and S$35.6 million, respectively. Some 2.2 million commuters are expected to benefit from the revision, with commuters seeing a fare reduction of up to 27 Singaporean cents per trip. A further public transport fare reduction of 1.5% will be carried over to next year. Public transport fares were reduced by 1.9% last year. "A prudent and balanced approach is however necessary to ensure the longer term sustainability of our public transport system.
