The biggest disappointment for the fans was the last match of the day when 2015 champion Saina Nehwal suffered a straight games quarter-final defeat against Beiwen Zhang. Sindhu had to counter some unexpected resistance from Spanish girl, Corrales Beatriz, who stretched her to full three games. Sindhu did win 21-12, 19-21, 21-11 but there was hardly any reason why she allowed it last 54 minutes. While a crestfallen Saina refused to talk, a smiling Zhang said it was one of the best wins of her career.
