The New Zealand Rugby Players Association is opposed to the controversial Silver Lake deal and one of its alternatives involves a 5 per cent public offering. Silver Lake would take a 12.5 per cent stake in a newly created NZR entity called Commercial LP, which oversees NZR’s commercial interests. But NZRPA said these areas can still continue to be supported without Silver Lake. Although the NZRPA acknowledges financial growth would be slower without Silver Lake, long-term “we will get more money to invest in the community game”. The players’ association believe the best people to look after New Zealand’s game are New Zealanders, the memo said.
