Legendary Silver Ferns coach Dame Noeline Taurua has called for a change to the contact rules in the game to ensure players are safe and games are clean. Taurua believes any head-high contact should see the perpetrator removed from the game, to help protect players from head and neck injuries. “I would definitely put across anything that’s head high should be an automatic taken off the court,” she told nzherald.co.nz. In the AFL case players are seeking compensation for pain and suffering, economic loss and medical expenses due to head injuries. A similar class action in the United States brought by former NFL players resulted in an initial payout of more than US$1 billion.
