The Thai shuttlers produced their most successful SEA Games campaign when they won four gold medals in Malaysia in 2017. The Thai shuttlers won the women's team event along with the mixed doubles, women's doubles and men's doubles titles. They also won two silver medals in the men's singles and women's doubles and four bronze medals from the women's singles, men's doubles, mixed doubles and men's team events. Dechapol also won the men's doubles gold in Kuala Lumpur alongside Kittinupong Kedren. His victory with Kittinupong was Thailand's first men's doubles SEA Games success in 18 years.
