Bolivia's Congress to vote on proposal for new elections: officialSenators observe a minute of silence at the beginning of a session at Bolivia's Congress in La Paz, on November 23, 2019LA PAZ - Bolivia's Congress will vote on a proposal Saturday that could open the door to new elections in the crisis-hit country, as the caretaker government prepares to meet with protesters to end weeks of unrest. At least 32 people have been killed in violence that erupted after a disputed election on October 20, with blockades causing severe fuel and food shortages in La Paz and other cities. The Senate will vote on the proposed bill which was approved unanimously by an interparty commission overnight, the upper house announced early Saturday on its Twitter account. Among other things, the proposed bill annuls the results of the October 20 vote and allows for new elections to be held. The United States suggested Thursday that Morales should stay out of upcoming elections, which should be "free, fair and transparent."
