Shia community to celebrate Eid today


LUCKNOW: The Shia Muslim community will be celebrating Eid today.The announcement was made by Shia cleric Maulana Kalbe Sadiq at around 3am after receiving fatwa issued by Ayatullah Sistani from Najaf in Iraq. However, Shia clerics here received communication from Iraq at around 2.45am on Wednesday following which fresh announcement was made at around 3pm.This means Eid will be held on days, Shia Muslims on Wednesday and Sunni Muslims on Thursday. "Shia Markazi Chand Committee president Maulana Saif Abbas has also confirmed that as per the directions of Ayatullah Sistani, Shias will celebrate Eid on Wednesday.Earlier, the Committee had announced at 8.30pm on Tuesday that since moon was not sighted, Eid will be held on Thursday. He confirmed that all Shia mosques have been asked to communicate the message to Shias across the city.According the the website of Ayatullah Sistani "Wednesday, is the auspicious day of Eid al-Fitr in Iraq, Iran, neighboring Arab countries, Southern Turkey, Indian Subcontinent (India, Pakistan & Bangladesh), Afghanistan, Indonesia, Australia and Africa.
