Jetstar and Air New Zealand aircraft on the tarmac at Nelson Airport when both airlines serviced the Nelson region. Nelson MP Nick Smith has accused Air New Zealand of "price gouging" as figures show a sharp hike in airfares following Jetstar's withdrawal from the region. "The four Jetstar flights per day from Auckland have been offset by only one new flight per day from Air NZ. The three Jetstar flights per day from Wellington have been offset by only one new flight per day from Wellington." After Jetstar ceased its Nelson services, Air NZ confirmed it would add 7000 seats, or 119 one-way flights into Nelson during December.
