Heroes in the form of civilians, medics and trained responders turned out to help in the aftermath of the eruption. The term hero was used many times this week in the aftermath of the eruption on Whakaari/White Island. It is testament to these heroes and their remarkable resolve to help others that so many survived. But Whakaari/White Island is a volcano. The people who lost their lives, the injured who survived and the heroes both trained and untrained who will forever remember the aftermath.
