The Serious Fraud Office will investigate the New Zealand First Foundation, a spokesman confirmed. This comes after the police referred the matter to the office last week. A spokesman for the Serious Fraud Office (SFO) said it had decided on Tuesday to commence an investigation into the foundation. The Electoral Commission initially looked into the matter following media reporting, and found that some donations to the Foundation should have been declared by the party itself. The Serious Fraud Office has laid four criminal charges concerning donations to the National Party following a complaint from independent MP Jami-Lee Ross.
