"While senior citizens do get physical exercise, it is the cognitive and social part, which is missing. For many of the senior citizens, who attended the workshop on dementia risk reduction at J.P. Nagar on Saturday, this was the first time they were introduced to exercises to improve their cognitive skills. There are three ways to reduce risk of dementia - physical, cognitive and social activities, said Radha S. Murthy, managing trustee of Nightingales Medical Trust. Nightingales Trust - Bagchi Centre for Active Ageing organised an activity-based workshop on dementia risk reduction, where participants where taken through a series of physical and cognitive exercises. It has been found that group activities can reduce risk factors for dementia by as much as 40 per cent," she said.
