Senior UN human rights official to visit Cox’s Bazar from March 2-4


UN Assistant Secretary General for Human Rights Andrew Gilmour will visit Bangladesh from March 2-5, to examine the current status of the Rohingya crisis. In Dhaka on March 5, Gilmour is due to meet with senior government officials and representatives from Bangladesh’s National Human Rights Commission to discuss the human rights situation in Cox’s Bazar. At the end of his four-day visit, the UN assistant secretary general will issue a statement to the media. Andrew Gilmour assumed his post as UN assistant secretary general for Human Rights on October 1, 2016, heading the UN Human Rights Office in New York. In October 2016, Gilmour was also designated by the UN Secretary General as the senior official to lead efforts within the UN system to address intimidation and reprisals against those cooperating with the UN on human rights.
