Security has been enhanced at the Likoni ferry channel following a terror alert issued last week. Mombasa county commissioner Mohammed Maalim says the security measures will entail thorough screening of both people and vehicles going through the channel. The commissioner said all the security firms manning the channel have been instructed to retrain their employees on how to carry out thorough screening. According to Maalim, the ferry carries over 1,000 people at a given time and allowing vehicles to board without screening might be risky. Maalim said at any given time, the ferry will be escorted by two armed police officers.
