Security boosted at Dhaka schools

Security has been tightened at several missionary and English medium schools around Dhaka after the school authorities were sent threats of attack, said sources in police and some schools yesterday. Visiting some of the schools, these correspondents found that school authorities were working on installing additional security measures on the campuses. Meanwhile, a teacher at a renowned English medium school, requesting anonymity, told the Dhaka Tribune that he learned from the school authorities that their school was second on the list of schools that have been threatened. Mirpur police station OC (investigation) Sazzadur Rahman said a missionary school principal filed a general diary with them on July 18 after receiving death threat. But when the Dhaka Tribune reached out to some schools, the authorities denied having received any threats and said they were delaying the resumption of school session after Eid to ensure students’ safety.
