Economists at the accountancy firm analysed the tasks and skills involved in more than 200,000 jobs across 29 countries, identifying three waves of automation, which they said were likely to strike before the mid-2030s. The first wave, expected to last until the early 2020s and involving the automation of simple digital tasks, will touch relatively few jobs, but financial services could be highly affected, the report said. By the end of the next decade, up to 20 per cent of jobs could be affected as advances are made in developing drones, robots in warehouses and semi-autonomous vehicles.
