Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos on Friday rescinded controversial Obama-era guidelines that had prodded colleges and universities to more aggressively — some say too aggressively — investigate campus sexual assaults. Jackson and DeVos have both been criticized for showing support for those who have been accused of sexual assault. It emphasizes providing the same information, rights and opportunities to both parties in a sexual assault investigation. The guidelines still require each school to have a coordinator and to report all incidents of sexual assault as required by the Clery Act, separate guidance from 1990 that remains in place. The previous guidelines suggested using a "preponderance of evidence," meaning the decision makers were more than 50% sure an assault occurred.
