That leaves one major title, specifically Kingsman: The Golden Circle. The 20th Century Fox release earned a promising $3.4 million in Thursday previews last night, or 242% of what the first Kingsman earned ($1.4m) via its Thursday night previews in February of 2015. So yeah, it was a good weekend for new R-rated franchises. Fox is heading into the weekend with the hope that Kingsman: The Golden Circle will open with an over/under $45 million Fri-Sun frame, or about what the first film did in its first four days. I’ve long argued that Kingsman: The Golden Circle had breakout sequel potential, with the leggy and well-liked original adding a bunch of new cast members to sweeten the pot.
