The pilot of a seaplane has made it out safely after it crashed and flipped into the harbour in central Auckland. A spokesperson for Sealink said the ferry to Pine Harbour was about a kilometre away when the plane crashed. Fire and Emergency spokesman Paul Radden said the plane crashed in Auckland Harbour, approximately 200 metres off Hamer Street. The Ports of Auckland pilot boat was sent to the scene, while a spokeswoman for Sealink ferries confirmed one of its vessels assisted with the rescue.
