In 2014 Palmerston North bodybuilding friends Charmaine Johnson and Nathalie Van Weers were banned from posing in their gym because of a widespread ban caused by another bodybuilder posing in undies. Palmerston North gym Human Movements jumped into action and banned its own sunbed. New Zealand gyms didn't go as far as a US gym which installed a "lunk" alarm. Supplied Selfies and phone photos have faced bans in gyms because others don't want to get caught in the background. It didn't stick, but the University of Canterbury gym rules still make it clear that selfies and all photography in the gym is banned.
