Scottish Government addresses 'sex offenders charter' that could protect beasts like Jimmy Savile

The Scottish Government has confirmed it has no plans to give sex offenders anonymity despite its record of soft-touch justice. A new law has come into force in Northern Ireland that critics claim would offer protection to notorious paedophiles like Jimmy Savile. Under the law, passed by Stormont in 2022, suspected perverts will be granted anonymity until they are charged. The Bill, which also excludes members of the public from the Crown Court during sex offence cases, became law on Thursday. But a Scottish Government spokesperson told the Scottish Express: "The Scottish Government has no current plans to legislate to introduce statutory anonymity for suspects in sexual offence cases."
