The Education Bureau today announced that starting from next Monday, school staff of special schools, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools will be put in place to arrange free testing in batches. In addition to the free testing arranged for individual high-risk groups such as staff of boarding sections of special schools in July this year, the bureau has extended the testing to cover school staff of special schools, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools. Taking schools as a unit, the bureau will sample about 2 percent of teaching and non-teaching staff in Hong Kong for testing on each school day. The number of schools sampled may be adjusted according to the data obtained with a view to conducting testing for all 130,000 school staff in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Federation of Education Workers welcomes the government’s decision, saying the pandemic in Hong Kong is still unstable, with a few local infections in the territory these days, including in local schools.
