Scales apple packout slightly down but still strong

Scales apple packout slightly down but still strongCHRIS HUTCHING/STUFF Scales Corporation managing director Andy Borland. Christchurch-based Scales Corporation's subsidiary Mr Apple produced a harvest largely in line with last year's record but it cost more to manage. Although Mr Apple export volumes were down about 5 per cent, Borland confirmed the company was on track for its forecast profit between $55m and $62m compared with last year's $67m. Scales continued to invest in the Mr Apple brand as well as the Dazzle and Diva apple brands, with the benefit of its relationship with cornerstone shareholder and marketer, China Resources Ng Fung. The company, founded in 1897 as a shipping business by George Herbert Scales, has more than 600 permanent staff and about another 1500 during harvest.
