MUMBAI: Sanjiv Mehta , managing director at Hindustan Unilever has been appointed as executive Chairman of the company, succeeding Harish Manwani who will retire as non-executive Chairman by June end.Manwani's retirement after 13 years in the post will also end his over four-decades old stint with the country's largest consumer products firm. Manwani joined the maker of Rin detergent and Lux soaps as a trainee in 1976. He has lived the values that make HUL such a great company. He implemented a marketing plan that brought Lever to within striking distance of Colgate and boosted the firm’s already strong position in shampoos. He joined the Indian unit after studying management at Jamnalal Bajaj Institute and became president of Unilever’s Asian and African business more than a decade ago.
