In what may be the conspiracy theory of all conspiracy theories — or, at least, the best one of this U.S. presidential campaign season not involving the Zodiac Killer — Samantha Bee has suggested Donald Trump may not be able to read. In the video, he refuses to read from a legal document, claiming he forgot his glasses. His lawyer then steps in, hastily informing the court Trump did not have to read said document because he isn’t a lawyer. The “most damning” piece of evidence, however, said Bee, is a study that says reading improves empathy. But she was careful to add that she’s not “definitively” saying Trump can’t read, but simple “asking the question.” Cough, birtherism, cough.
