The committee of Islamic and Coptic antiquities approved starting restoration of Bab Azzab, one of Saladin Citadel of Cairo’s gates and its surrounding area. The surronding area includes three buildings beside the citadel’s gate, the nearby yard as well as the stairs. Located in Mokkatam, the citadel was proclaimed as one of the list of the World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The renovation process of Old Cairo started in 2015, when a collaborative between effort the Ministries of Housing, and Antiquities took place. The work started with Wikalat Qaytbay, expanded to Khedive Cairo in 2016 before a second phase of restoration took place in 2017.
