The phenomenon is caused when sand from the African desert is whipped up and blown into the sky where winds carry it north to Europe and the UK. A Met Office spokesman said: "A plume of Saharan wind is being blown by a southerly wind where it is expected to reach Norfolk this weekend. "The wind will reach the county on Saturday where people can expect to see vivid red sunsets and sunrises. The Met Office has also warned the sand can add to air pollution levels. When the dust mixes with rain, a light covering can begin to form on cars causing some minor disruption for drivers.
