The UK government has praised Morocco’s serious efforts to advance the UN-led process seeking a lasting and peaceful resolution to the Sahara regional conflict. The supportive stand comes in the Joint Statement issued Tuesday in Rabat following the 4th UK-Morocco Strategic Dialogue co-chaired by Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita and UK Minister for MENA region Lord Ahmad Tariq. The UK has reaffirmed its commitment to help the parties to Sahara conflict to reach a just, lasting and mutually acceptable political solution based on compromise. In the joint statement, the two ministers renewed London and Rabat’s full support to the efforts engaged by UN Sahara envoy Staffan de Mistura in a bid to find a realistic solution to the Sahara issue. London also hailed Morocco’s constructive role in the region, including the promotion of stability, security and economic development, as well as in the fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
