It is very sad to read the report of how my donations to Bóthar were spent by David Moloney (‘Ex-Bóthar boss David Moloney admits stealing suitcases of cash from charity,’ Irish Independent, May 15). It was disgusting that he had filed an affidavit in court to claim family living expenses of €6,160 per month. Bord na Móna peat briquettes were due to be phased out by 2024 but it would appear they have gone off the market already. Leading up to their disappearance, stores stocked Bord na Móna briquettes, as well as Eastern European and a German varieties, the foreign ones being slightly cheaper. Surely the era of waffle, deflection, excuses, and incompetence is near its end – or have the gods abandoned us entirely?
