KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government will provide financial incentives to state athletes who contributed medals in the recent 29th SEA Games and 9th Asean Para Games. “A total of RM52,750 is allocated to all Sea Games medal winners and another RM104,500 will be distributed to the Asean Para Games medal holders,” he said in a statement today. “It also acts as motivation or an ‘extrinsic motivator’ for our athletes so they will strive for excellence at a higher level.”A total of 29 athletes from Sabah were selected to represent the country in the 29th SEA Games and another 27 others were chosen to compete in the Asean Para Games. Of the 29 Sea Games athletes, 16 sportspersons contributed nine gold medals, two silver medals, and six bronze medals. In the Asean Para Games, 16 athletes contributed nine gold medals, 10 silver medals, and 12 bronze medals.
