Annaleise Faint is a member of Pūhoro STEM academy, a programme that fosters the development of Māori students. Despite having a squash scholarship to Dickinson College, in Pennsylvania, closed borders meant Faith made the decision to study in New Zealand. This summer, she would undertake her Pūhoro STEM summer internship with Bragato Research Institute (BRI), based in Blenheim. SCOTT HAMMOND/STUFF Faint’s goal was to become a secondary school teacher in a Māori Medium school teaching biology and chemistry. BRADEN FASTIER/Stuff Linking chemistry to Mātauranga Māori came about through Faint's knowledge of what rocks to use in a hangi.
