The Scottish Government has failed to back up claims made by social justice secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville about the controversial Gender Reform Recognition Act. Speaking to Channel 4 News, Ms Somerville described the judicial review as the only option to defend the bill. However, officials failed to supply this, claiming that "it relates to legal advice and disclosure would breach legal professional privilege." The judicial review is expected to take over a year, with Mr Yousaf promising to publish how expensive it was once it has been completed. And Maggie Chapman, the party's equality spokeswoman, was even tipped off by Ms Somerville that they were launching a legal challenge three hours before the announcement was made.
