Electing to bat first Bangladesh made a solid start as openers Tamim Iqbal and Imrul Kayes put up 72 runs before the epic partnership between Mominul and Rahim was scripted. Sri Lanka used six bowlers, two pacies and four spinners, but could not outsmart the hosts as Mominul carried his bat through the day to remain unbeaten at 175. He faced 203 deliveries and hit 16 fours and a six while building up a double century stand for the second wicket, the fourth best for Bangladesh for any wicket. Rahim was caught behind off Suranga Lakmal for 92, after he had faced 192 deliveries and hit 10 boundaries. Kayes was trapped leg-before off spinner Lakshan Sandakan for 40, which came off 75 balls inclusive of four boundaries.
