The province’s police watchdog is looking into a Markham collision after an unmarked police car struck and killed a male pedestrian Monday afternoon. The Special Investigations Unit says that a York Regional Police officer was operating the vehicle on Kennedy Rd., just north of Highway 7, when the pedestrian was struck. The SIU said it has assigned six investigators, three forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist. The agency invokes its mandate any time a police officer has been involved in a serious injury, death or sexual assault. They are asking for anyone with information or video footage regarding the incident to come forward.
