The police said Gopinatha Pillai, along with his younger brother Madhavan Pillai, from Nooranad, met with an accident at Vayalar Junction on Wednesday morning. As per Madhavan Pillai, who escaped unhurt, the accident occurred when a lorry rear-ended their car and it sped away. Gopinatha Pillai suffered injuries and was shifted to a hospital in Ernakulam, but he died on Friday morning. Madhavan Pillai, who was driving the car, said that he did not believe the accident was intentional. However, Gopinatha Pillai believed that his son and others were murdered in a fake encounter and launched a legal fight.
