SHC issues notice on controversial island development ordinance


In regards to the Pakistan Islands Development Authority (PIDA) Ordinance issued by President Arif Alvi a few days ago, the Sindh High Court (SHC) sent a notice to all federal and provincial authorities on Thursday. The notice was on the petition challenging the PIDA Ordinance and directed the governments to reply till October 23, when the next hearing is scheduled to take place. During the hearing, Advocate Shahab Usto argued that the ordinance in violation of Articles 1, 97 and 172 of the Constitution. However, it has been seen as an encroachment by the Sindh government, which is asserting its ownership over the islands. We are bringing in development and foreign investment to benefit Sindh’s people.” He added that those who will be affected by the development work will be compensated.
