SHC acquits three in explosives case

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday set aside 14-year term given to three men in a case pertaining to possessing explosive material. The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) had sentenced Mushtaq Ahmed, Abdul Khaliq and Shahnwaz to 14 years of imprisonment, each, on the charges of possessing the explosive substance. The convicts, through their counsel, challenged the sentence given by the trial court and submitted that the prosecution had failed to submit any concrete evidence against them. The court was requested to set aside the judgment of the trial court and to order the release of the convicts. After hearing the arguments from both sides, the SHC quashed the sentence given by the trial court to both the appellants and ruled that the convicts shall be released, if not involved in any other case.
