Ryanair draws up plans to cover pilot strikes


The airline apologised for what it called the actions of “very well-paid” staff NEIL HALL/EPARyanair will publish contingency plans to offset the disruption of strike action next week but has admitted that some flights may be affected. Members of the Irish Airline Pilots’ Association (Ialpa), a branch of the trade union Impact, voted in favour of industrial action on December 20. They have been joined by some of their union colleagues in Portugal, Germany, Italy and Spain. Pilots in Portugal will strike on the same day as members of the Irish union, while Italian pilots that are members of the Anpac trade union will strike later today for four hours. In a statement issued yesterday, the airline said it had received notice of the planned industrial action.
