Aamir Khan was very keen on a film based on the KM Nanavati case from the 1960s. This is before Akshay Kumar went on to make Rustom, loosely based on the high-profile, controversial case. Aamir wanted to collaborate with Neerja's Ram Madhavani and they even met Nanavati's widow, Syvia who now resides in London. Mumbai Fables-author Gyan Prakash, whose movie was the source material for Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet, was reportedly unhappy with the way Rustom turned out. Those researching Aamir's movie were also reportedly surprised by how Rustom turned out as a film.
