Washington (CNN) Fancy Bear, a hacking group linked to Russian military intelligence, targeted a Washington think tank, the Center for Strategic and International Studies, CNN has learned. The same Russian group is believed to behind the hack of the Democratic National Committee in 2016. A court in Virginia gave Microsoft control of a group of websites that were intended to look like login sites for the think tank's internal systems, court filings Wednesday show. Hackers could have used the website domains to set up fake login pages or send emails to people who work with or have Center for Strategic and International Studies email addresses in an attempt to trick them into handing over information, like their passwords. Hackers successfully used this form of attack, known as spearphishing, to target Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman John Podesta in 2016.
