The army is investigating whether British soldiers on an exercise in Latvia were deliberately provoked into a brawl and then filmed in a Russian-backed plot to portray them falsely as hooligans. Two members of the Grenadier Guards were set upon by a local gang while eating at a McDonald’s in Riga, the Baltic state’s capital, a defence source said.
