Neihana Renata was given a wedge of apple, which is against advice given by the Ministry of Health. A Rotorua toddler who choked on a piece of apple at a daycare is now unable to walk, talk or swallow normally. Neihana Renata was 22 months old when the incident occurred at Little Lights Kindy on May 31, 2016. SUPPLIED Neihana Renata cannot walk, talk or move his body after choking on a piece of apple. The ministry recommended hard foods such as apple and carrot were grated finely or cooked until soft before being given to under-fives.
