NZ call for better social media controls gains global traction


Another 18 institutional investors, including a huge British pension fund, have joined a Kiwi-led push to pressure social media companies to strengthen content controls in the wake of the Christchurch shootings. Three British pension funds have signed up; the Church of England Pensions Board, Britain's Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF) and Merseyside Pension Fund. SUPPLIED NZ Super fund boss Matt Whineray will continue his push for investors to exert more pressure on social media firms during a visit to London this week. The Super Fund's preference was to engage, she said. Whineray described how the NZ Super Fund went from horror on the day of the killings in Christchurch to a decision to force Facebook to change.
