IT HAS A MELODIOUS name and multiple variations, yet it’s one of the least popular of the rosé styles. I’m referring to rosato, the pink wine of Italy. I’ve rarely seen more than one or two rosatos in a store or on a wine list in the U.S. The origin and varietal composition of these wines is often unfamiliar. For example, how many wine drinkers know what a rosato made from a blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese produced in the Marche region will taste like?
