Robyn Urback: Tony Clement’s anti-terrorism plan is, in a word, bananas

The most radical of those propositions is a pledge to jail people who have been deemed a terrorist threat and meet the evidentiary threshold of a peace bond (which was lowered under the Conservatives’ anti-terrorism bill, C-51). Clement’s plan to make Canada safer includes publishing a “wanted” list of terrorists and terrorist sympathizers, all of whom must meet some sort of evidentiary threshold. If Tony Clement wants to borrow Leitch’s dog whistle and campaign off of our collective insecurities, that’s his prerogative. At the very least, however, he should endeavour to ensure that his promises don’t undermine the very freedoms he purports to be protecting. At the moment, whatever noise he’s making should be pleasing only to the Liberals listening from across the aisle.
